Parenting-The Hardest Job on Earth!
- Give praise and encouragement openly without reservation.
- Be consistent with discipline.
- Use media such as movies, CDs, and television shows as conversation starters.
- Involve your child as much as possible in making family rules and decisions.
- Be a good role model for your child. (Children will not do as you say-they will do as you do!)
- Read to your child every day or let him or her read to you.
- Discuss your family's values and why you have them.
- Talk with your child about risky behaviors as soon as possible, such as those involving alcohol,
tobacco, drugs, and sexuality. Be open, honest, and approachable.
